Sublimation vs DTF: Which Printing Method Is Right for You?

Sublimation and DTF are both popular ways to print full-color designs, but they work differently and suit different materials.

Sublimation

Sublimation uses heat to turn special ink into a gas that bonds with polyester or polymer-coated items. It generally works best on light-colored polyester.

DTF

DTF transfers a printed film onto the garment with heat. It works on many fabrics, including cotton, and on light and dark colors. See What Is DTF Printing?

How to choose

  • Cotton or dark garments: DTF is usually the better fit.
  • Light polyester items: sublimation can work well.
  • Mixed fabrics in one order: DTF is flexible.
